For some reason each time you upgrade the Wordpress code Technorati stops crawling your site (well thats the case for me and a few others on the forums anyway). Another support call with Technorati, but last time they did resolve my issue quickly.

There has been some interesting debate recently about Lotus Domino development, Ed Brill’s latest post is a good reference point for this (here).
For me the key is to allow an experience where developers can work efficiently to produce applications which people can use intuitively. The area I think has been neglected from Lotus is the power user. The people in all our work environments who develop excel spreadsheets, access databases and other such tools to solve problems for their particular needs. I’d like to see some regression to combine basic development features in the Notes client which would allow these power users to develop solutions they need.
I have heard and read that in activity explorer there are plans to analyse the workflow within activity threads and allow re-use of common workflows to solve business need. It would be great if the notes client had a simple workflow template, perhaps a graphical interface developed from a flowchart, which linked to a defined area on a domino server for ad-hoc workflows. This for me would be a benificial addition to the Notes stable.

My role has been changing gradually over the last few months after moving in July from my old role specifically focussing on Lotus collaborative technology to a new role. Its funny how this time my role change has been a gradual transition rather than a switch across. Anyway for the moment my work focuses me on portal and team workplace solutions in addition to hopefully spending some time looking at RSS and some web 2.0 technologies. So just to warn you to expect some more varied posts as I delve into new areas of technology for me (from IBM, Microsoft and others).

I am a podcast fan, at the same time I’m a podcast irregular. What I mean is I don’t have a regular time that I can listen to podcasts or view video casts. I assume like most things my podcast listening habits won’t be unusual. So you’ll normally find me listening to a podcast while doing household chores, my brain doesn’t seem to allow me to effectively concentrate on one item while listening and taking note of another - unless it is a mundane task like ironing. Selecting a suitable podcast for my limited listening time can be tricky, without a detailed description you often end up listening to irrelavent content. So here are my desires with podcasts:
1. Keep them short.
2. Keep to your agenda.
3. Publish text notes on the content and speakers.
4. Focus on topics rather than trying to cover a wide subject area.
One thing the audio recording and podcasts do excellently is allow time shifting of meetings and presentations. With some simple kit (or even some complex kit like that in the photo courtesy of mr brown) you can record a meeting for future playback. I find these extremely useful although I do find that if I haven’t time to attend the meeting in the first place I’m unlikely to be able to have time for the playback. However, even given that comment I find recorded meetings extremely useful as it still allows me to deal with meeting clashes and find the time for important meetings. Meeting recording also allows me to broaden the audience from those initially invited. For meeting recordings here are my preferences:
1. If possible use a system which links what is displayed on the screen with the audio.
2. If software is not available to sync screen and audio then ensure you describe the screen and talk to the slide transitions.
3. I’d rather download a large high quality file that a small poor quality file.
What tickled my interest to write this post was this article in business week which discusses podcast listening habits.

I was interested to learn earlier this week about SuiteTwo. Venture capital from Intel has enabled the following products to be integrated:
- Â Six Apart (blogs)
- Â Socialtext (wikis)
- Â Newsgator (rss reading interface)
- Â Simplefeed (rss publishing)
- Â Spikesource (to glue it all together)
Its really interesting to see Intel make this move and plan to resell through themselves, Dell and NEC.
From my limited reading it doesn’t appear to have out of the box interfaces with enterprise email or IM systems. It will be interesting to see how this product fares in enterprises compared to the traditional offerings, especially those from Microsoft and IBM (both of whom are implementing more and more Web 2.0 features in their products). Will the niche players with Intel’s backing win a share of the big boys market? Time will tell.
The one thing that really pleases me about this suite is the recognition that enterprises need more than isolated products and for most enterprises integration wins.
